Voodoo Queen Digital Magazine wants to know Final Drive's "Lifeswork"....

VQDM: Hey guys how is it going? You all have been busy busy busy!

Alex: Been going great! And yes we sure have!

Jordan: Only way to be!

VQDM: First we here at VQM know all about Final Drive, can you tell the readers out there  who is Final drive?

Ray: FINAL DRIVE IS A 5 PIECE METAL BAND FROM ST LOUIS MISSOURI THATS FOCUSED ON CREATING NEW MUSIC CONSTANTLY, AND GETTING OUR BRAND OF MUSIC OUT THERE TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE THROUGH TOURING AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Alex: We are Final Drive!..... No one else, just us :)

Nathan: Final Drive is Final Drive. (.) period.

VQDM: Where did the name Final Drive come from?

Alex: I believe it originally came from Nathan, named after the last gear on a motorcycle transmission.

Nathan: The idea came from the final drive on a motorcycle. It can be used many different ways as well.

VQDM: Now that you have found that perfect line up after being together 10 plus years, who gets the most shit if anyone? haha

Ray: NATE FOR SURE

Alex: No one gets that much shit really but to answer the question I guess I'd say myself because I'm the youngest.

Jordan: Nate’s the Whipping boy.

Nathan: All of us take a bite of the shit sandwich all the time. It's called love

VQDM: Jordan, you are a Horror Buff, what is your fav and how did you get into Horror?

The Friday the 13th series is my favorite, zombie flicks get me too, Shaun of the Dead is my favorite zombie flick. As a youngin’ we used to head to the local movie rental store on Friday nights and my little brother and I would scour the horror section.  Just naturally drawn

VQDM: You guys have been on tour a lot this year, do you all have a designated driver for all the driving or rock paper scissors?

Ray: CHRIS IS PRIMARY DRIVER BUT JORDAN & NATE HELP OUT. IT JUST SEEMS TO WORK

Alex: For the most part driving is done by Chris and Nate. Every blue moon someone else will step up.

Jordan: Safety is key, that determines the driver.

Nathan: Chris, Jordan and I do the driving. The rest sleep or relax most of the time. Chris and I are usually in the front getting us to the next job.

VQDM: Is there a song that describes Final Drive?

Ray: ID SAY BURIED IN YOU, IT’S A DRIVING SONG & THE VOCALS ARE AGGRESSIVE IN BOTH MEANING AND DELIVERY

Alex: I wouldn't say any specific song could really describe us. But I would say the new album title "Lifeswork" describes the band.

Nathan: All of them. Even if we don't play them often.

VQDM: In a Zombie Apocalypse and you could only grab one CD that's already laying around your home . What would it be?

Chris: As I Lay Dying - The Powerless Rise

Ray:  ID SAY WORMWOOD FROM ACACIA STRAIN WOULD MOTIVATE SOME ZOMBIE SLAYIN

Alex: Texas in July "I Am”

Jordan: Nine inch Nails: The Downward Spiral

Nathan: I hear music in my head all of the time so I would pass on grabbing a cd and grab 3 guns and plenty of ammo. Maybe a knife and simple tools as well.

VQDM: Is there any kind of genre of music any of you guys would like to compose later in life ?

Chris: Nope

Ray: IVE ALWAYS  BEEN DIVERSE IN MUSIC WRITING SO IM ALWAYS OPEN TO NEW CREATIVE IDEAS! NO LIMITS

Alex: I'm sure me and nate would love to compose a nice classical piece someday.

Nathan: Possibly more, hmmm, how do I say it? MORE METAL!

VQDM: Who are your hero's, I'm not just referring to musicians but anyone in general?

Chris: I’m gonna have to go w/ mom & dad on this one. They've both been through A LOT of bullshit over the last few years, yet continue to keep moving forward. They've made many sacrifices for my brother & I & now our families. Cliché as fuck, but I hope that I can be 1/2 as great as they've been, for my family

Ray: I’D SAY MY GRANDPARENTS THEY KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO WORK HARD & GO WITHOUT, THEYRE MY HEROES

Alex: I would have to say my Parents, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here.

Jordan: Fans are my hero’s, they keep me going, pushing and delivering.

Nathan: My Heros are the entire metal family that supports Final Drive. ALL!! of us are in it together!!!

VQDM: Love the remake of ZZ Top's Get paid, what gave you guys the idea to do

that as a cover?

Jordan: I can’t remember exactly why we were doing a cover at that time, but I do remember hearing that riff and just knew we could put that FD spin on it and make it our own.  I think we did a good job on that tune, it’s always fun to jam live.

Nathan: Not sure on this one. Who's ZZ Top? ;-)

VQDM:  Jordan, Can you tell us about Blood Red Prints?

Jordan: BloodRedPrints.com is a custom apparel screen printing shop I own and operate with my wife Korynne.  We cater to mostly bands, clubs and events in need of short run apparel. ( link at bottom of the interview folks, check em out! )

VQDM: I'm going to ask, What i would call the most "Metalist" thing that has happened on stage and you guys kept playing?

Chris: Nate’s bleeding all over the place?

Ray: I WOULD DEF HAVE TO SAY THE TIME I CAME AROUND HOT WITH MY BASS ON STAGE & SLAMMED NATE IN THE FACE! FUCKIN DROPPED HIM TO ONE KNEE & THAT DUDE STOOD UP, WIPPED THE BLOOD FROM HIS FACE & FINISHED THE SHOW! FUCKIN MOST METAL THING IVE EVER SEEN ON STAGE!

Alex: Definitely when Nate got hit in the face with Ray's bass guitar. The was blood all over and nate kept on playin. \M/

Nathan: When Ray beat my head in with his bass. Stage left and I looked like a crime scene. Beware, don't piss Ray off. "HAHA! Jus' jokin!"

VQDM: Has there being anyone in the business that any of you have met that you were beyond starstruck and you just had to hold it in being musicians yourself? Also Chris, how was it to have a one on with the great Rob Halford?

Chris: It was incredibly awesome. The man was very easy to speak to & had some great insight & knowledge to share. Very cool experience. I don't get "fanboy". Everybody is human & it's just a pleasure to meet other musicians you look up to or movie/TV persons whose work you enjoy.

Jordan: haha I met Corey Taylor and couple years ago at NAMM, and motherfuck was I a blabbering idiot. haha happens to the best of us, what can I say.

Nathan: Not yet. We are all family, I don't see "starstruck"

VQDM: What has the experience of going to NAMM and going again this year been like for the band?

Chris: It simply gets better every year. More connections are made & business being conducted

Alex: Namm is definitely been the highlight of my time with Final Drive. It's been a great experience I can't wait to go again next year.

Jordan: Exactly, every year gets just a little better, and now finally 2015 we’ll go as a full band!!

Nathan: Bad ass and more results of positive beliefs and feelings.

VQDM: Describe Final Drive in 3 words?

Ray: HARDWORKING FUN METAL

Alex: Fucking Awesome Metal.

Jordan: Southern Groove Thrash, METAL

Nathan: A fan couldn't figure out how to explain our delivery of metal to him so he told us "you guys are like Fuck Yeah Metal" I will continue to describe us as that!

VQDM: Can any of you or all  think of the most exciting day in your music career overall that stands out the most?

Ray: ONE OF MY MAJOR DAYS IN MUSIC WOULD HAVE TO BE OPENING MAIN STAGE AT VERIZON WIRELESS AMPHITHEATER IN MY HOME TOWN OF ST LOUIS TO A SOLD OUT CROWD OF 25,000 FOR BREAKING BENJAMIN 3 DAYS GRACE AND SEETHER WITH MY FORMER BAND 13DAYS THAT WAS A GOOD DAY

Alex: It was definitely my first day at NAMM last year.

Jordan: RIGHT NOW! a close second is when MTV showed up at our house to film and tell us we made it to the Battle for Ozzfest TV show!

Nathan: When I was able to tune my guitar

VQDM: Raymond, Who inspired you to pick up the bass?

MY BIGGEST INFLUENCE CAME FROM CLIFF BURTON FROM METALLICA. THE FIRST TIME I HEARD CLIFF PLAY I WAS LITERALY MESMERIZED BY HIS TALENT & PRETTY MUCH IS WHAT INSPIRED ME TO PURSUE MUSIC.

VQDM: Where do you all go when your on stage, do you have a different mind set?

Ray: WHEN I PLAY SHOWS IM LOCKED IN TO OUR PERFORMANCE & CREATING THE BEST POSSIBLE SHOW AND SOUND EXPERIENCE FOR OUR FANS AND NEW COMERS! I WANNA GIVE OUR FANS WHAT THEY WANT  AND PULL NEW FANS INTO OUR SET

Alex: I just close my eyes and pretend I'm still playing by myself in moms basement. Seriously I have to concentrate with my eyes closed most of the time. Otherwise I lose my train of thought.

Jordan: Before a show I try and get in a mindset, and warmup, during the show it’s all about connection to everyone in the room!

Nathan: No, I simply go onstage.

VQDM: Jordan, what age did you start writing and singing and who inspired you?

Earliest memory and 4 track recordings are probably around 11 or 12 years old, I’ve never been a fan or had much desire to play other peoples music so early on I was writing my own stuff.  Grunge simplified music for me, before grunge I listened to 80’s metal and just didn’t emulate that as well as a could with grunge. I remember having this huge notebook filled with over 200 songs!

VQDM: Alex, what did you think when you first went to audition for Final Drive and your favorite drummer?

Alex: I remember feeling nervous when I first got to Jordans that day. Because to be honest I hadn't practiced the songs i was supposed to learn. But as it turns out I still did great and so here I am! My favorite drummer is hard to say, my style is influenced from a wide array of others, When I first started playing I wasn't even into metal yet, so back in those days I really liked Travis Barker -_-

VQDM: Chris and Nathan, First guitars?

Chris: Crimson Red, Squier II by Fender Stratocaster.

Nathan: Custom made classical made out of maple with a rosewood fretboard from my mom by my great grandfather Frank Martino.

VQDM: What made you choose the path you are all on now, compared to what your parents wanted you to do?

Chris: My parents wanted me to do what made me happy . . . & I'm still searchin for it. Gooooo

Ray: EVERYTHING IVE DONE IN LIFE HAS REVOLVED AROUND MUSIC, ITS WHERE I BELONG THATS FOR SURE!!!

Alex: Pretty funny story. My mom made me join band and play the drums in middle school, and back then I really didn't think it would ever go anywhere, but once I went to my first concert with my dad (El Monstero) I realized that music is something I really want to pursue.

Jordan: Honestly I think it just chose me, following the muse, or she’s following me...

Nathan: Far Beyond Driven.

VQDM: Hobbies and or professions outside of Final Drive ?

Ray: I INSTALL HARDWOOD AND CERAMIC TILE WHEN IM NOT TOURING TO MAKE SOME CASH IM ALSO REALLY BIG INTO DEER TURKEY AND WATERFOWL HUNTING MY FAMILY HAS PROPERTY THEY LIVE ON AND I HELP THEM MANAGE THE DEER THERE. ITS A YEAR ROUND RESPONSIBILITY MANAGING THE LAND AND DOING THINGS TO HELP HOLD THE DEER ON THEIR LAND. DEER HUNTING AND LAND MANAGING IS A VERY BIG PASSION OF MINE

Alex: My only hobbies are video games and drums. Pretty much the only things I'm good at.... Oh and eating I'm pretty good at that too.

Nathan: Building things out of wood and cooking. Maybe some metal here and there.

VQDM: What is it like with a guitarist, drummer and bassist all under one roof? New Material?

Ray: WE ALREADY HAVE OVER 6 NEW SONGS ON THE TABLE AND WE JUST RELEASED LIFESWORK LAST MONTH.

Alex: Yeah Nathan and I have been jamming a lot, every once in a while we are blessed with Ray's presence. It's a lot of fun living together.

Nathan: "Run For Your Life"

VQDM: What advice would any of you give for young artists out there?

Chris: Be yourself. Teach yourself & have your own style. It's not glamorous. You gotta deal w/ the bullshit, but just keep pushin

Ray: KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN TO NEW THINGS AND ALWAYS EXPERIMENT WITH NEW SOUNDS AND BEATS. AND BE OUTGOING WHEN JUST HANGING OUT AT SHOWS AND TALK TO PEOPLE. IT HELPS

Alex: Don't give up, if you really want your dreams to come true you can not give up.

And Practice Practice Practice.

Nathan: My advice would be directed towards the parents of young musicians. SUPPORT YOUR KIDS!!!

VQDM: Who is the prankster if not all of you?

Jordan: Peanut gallery 99.9% of the time.

Nathan: Jordan

VQDM: Any Shout Outs?

Chris: To my wife, Katie. Not for standing behind me, but always beside me. Taking this roller coaster journey right w/ me & for bearing the greatest gift to have ever been given, my li'l nugget, Harper Josephine

Alex: Hi Mom.

Jordan:  Like to give a shout to all our endorsements! Mack’s Hear Plugs, EMG Pickups, Heil Microphones, Sterling by Musicman, Clayton USA, Saluda Cymbals and Couch Guitar Straps!

Nathan: Yes,  all of them.

VQDM: What can we look for in the future from Final Drive?

Ray: ALOT OF TOURING AND NEW MUSIC

Alex: More music and awesome shows!

Jordan: I third that!!!!

Nathan: More diversity
